Working visit of Luc Frieden to Belgium
On 29 November, Prime Minister Luc Frieden travelled to Belgium to meet the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. He was also received by the Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander De Croo, for a working visit.
This visit follows the discussions on the future of Europe held the day before in Paris.
During their meeting, the Prime Minister and the President of the European Commission discussed a number of topical European issues, including teleworking, the internal market and the competitiveness of EU businesses. The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss issues on the agenda for the next European Council, such as the enlargement policy, developments in Ukraine and the multiannual financial framework.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to underline the deep commitment of the new Luxembourg government to the European project and to discuss the role and prospects of Luxembourg as the headquarters of the European institutions.
Prime Minister Luc Frieden also had the opportunity to meet his Belgian counterpart, Alexander De Croo, ahead of the Benelux Summit to be held in Rotterdam on 29 November. The talks with Prime Minister De Croo were the occasion to highlight the long-standing cooperation between Luxembourg and Belgium, strengthened by the close ties of friendship between the two countries. The two heads of government also discussed bilateral relations and the priorities of the Belgian Presidencies of the Council of the European Union and the Benelux in 2024.
