Heat Alert – Orange Alert Issued for Tomorrow, 1 July 2025: Reminder of Recommended Behaviour

Due to the heat warning (orange alert) issued by MeteoLux for the entire country this Tuesday, 1 July, between noon and 9.00 pm, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 32°C and 35°C – and with temperatures above 35°C forecast for Wednesday – the Severe Weather Risk Assessment Unit (CERI) convened today to assess the situation.

CERI wishes to remind the public of the possible health consequences and the appropriate actions to take in order to limit the effects of the heat.

Possible consequences:

  • Risk of health problems, especially for older people, young children, individuals with chronic illnesses or mental health conditions, people taking certain medications, and those who are socially isolated.
  • Dehydration or heat stroke (symptoms include: fever above 40°C, hot, red and dry skin, headache, nausea, drowsiness, intense thirst, confusion, convulsions, and loss of consciousness).

Recommended Behaviour:

  • Drink plenty of water regularly throughout the day (1.5 litres per day).
  • Avoid going outside (prolonged and direct exposure to the sun) during the hottest hours of the day (11.00 am –9.00 pm).
  • Keep shutters, curtains and windows closed during the day and ventilate at night.
  • Cover your head if you go outside.
  • Wear light clothing.
  • Limit physical activity.
  • Stay in contact with vulnerable or at-risk individuals around you. Help them access a cool environment.

CERI will meet again on 1 July in the late morning to reassess the situation and will provide updates accordingly.
